UCSD Policy and Procedure Manual Sec. 516-5 Sec. C--Chemical Safety, which states "The supervisor or Principal Investigator is responsible for health and safety surveillance throughout his/her area." This is meant to include all UC work conducted regardless of location.
Safety Requirements for Principal Investigators, Field Supervisors, and Field Workers (see UC Davis Field Research Safety Document) with the P.I. at the front of the responsibility Org. Chart and strengthen the "reasonable effort" on the PI's part to "shall". Perhaps Pat Slassenger at OP could do a white paper to give legal basis for adopting UC Davis PPM 370-05 systemwide?
