Ozone Depleting Substances Management

The use of a group of chemicals, collectively known as ozone depleting substances (ODS), has been identified as causing degradation of stratospheric ozone. Within the University of California Irvine (UCI), ODS are used as refrigerants (Freon and Chlorofluorocarbon (CFC)).

Some examples of Freon containing equipment include refrigerators, freezers and centrifuges.

Please do your part to minimize the release of Freon to the environment by following these guidelines:

  • Report Freon leaks to EH&S as soon as possible at (949) 824-6200.
  • Submit on-line service requests for your unit. EH&S will contact an approved refrigerant service vendor to have your equipment repaired within 1-3 days.
