Securing the UC Irvine Campus

In the event of police activity, for example a shooter on campus, we will move very rapidly to secure our campus.

What will occur on campus?

Every effort will be made to secure all entrances and exits to the campus as appropriate.

Individuals on campus will be asked to seek a secure indoor location. Examples of secure locations include:

  • the building you work in;
  • the classroom you have instruction in;
  • your residence hall or apartment.

Individuals off campus will be asked to stay away from campus for their safety and to help officials in securing the campus.

How will this be communicated?

The campus will utilize several methods of communications to get information regarding securing the campus out quickly.

This may include some or all of the following methods:

  • Campus-wide voice mail;
  • Campus-wide Zotmail;
  • Messages to over 100 campus Smart Classrooms;
  • Messages on UCI marquee signs;
  • UCI web site;
  • Notify Quick message to Zone Crew to secure campus buildings;
  • Notify Quick message to Housing to secure residential housing buildings;
  • Notify Quick message to campus food eateries and the Student Center;
  • zotALERT Text Messaging Service;
  • Ground based communications via bullhorns by police vehicles;
  • KUCI radio.

How will I know what to do next?

Utilizing the same methods of communications listed above, messages will be sent out regarding next steps to take or to indicate the incident is over. We will also activate our Community Alert phone number, 1-866-IRV-NEWS with additional information.
