Personal Protective Equipment (PPE)

Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) Policy
The University of California policy and regulatory standards require the supervisor to select Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) for workers under their supervision based on an assessment of hazards in the workplace which those workers are likely to encounter.

COVID-19 Face Covering Distribution
To reduce possible exposure to COVID-19 on property controlled by UCI, and help prevent the spread of COVID-19 within the UCI community, UCI’s Executive Directive requires all individuals on UCI controlled property to wear face coverings.

Laboratory Research PPE
The Laboratory PPE Program provides labs workers with PPE at no charge. Each eligible lab member will receive 2 lab coats, a pair of safety glasses and a pair of splash goggles for the duration of their time at UCI.

Noise Assessment
The Hearing Conservation Program (HCP) was developed to prevent permanent noise-induced hearing loss resulting from on-the job noise exposure.

Non-Research PPE
PPE recommendations are made for non-research areas to protect individuals, exposed to health and safety hazards, from the risk of injury by creating a barrier against workplace hazards.

Respiratory Protection
The Respiratory Protection Program defines the procedures for selecting respirators, medical evaluations, fit testing, and proper use, care and maintenance of respirators.
